The passage describes the dramatic intervention of God in the end times to save His people. While faithful believers are persecuted and destined for destruction, dark forces attack. But at the decisive moment, God’s power is revealed: a supernatural darkness sets in and a shining rainbow appears as a sign of the divine covenant. The enemies freeze in fear, while the believers hear a voice proclaiming their salvation. A tremendous earthquake shakes the earth, nature is thrown out of joint and God’s law is made visible. Finally, the righteous are delivered, while the wicked recognize their guilt – but it is too late for them.
