Jesus' commandment to love - misunderstood - has already led many into sin. If lived respectfully, it protects you from ruin. A guide to uncompromising holiness. By Ellen White

"God needs people with purity of heart and life. Anything that falls short of this is out of the question for him. Whoever does not want to suffer with Jesus will also not reign with him." (3T 66; Z3 73) "It is hard work to stay on the path of purity and holiness and to slowly strive forward and upward, step by painful step." (3T 193; Z3 206) "If an impure thought is tolerated, an impure desire cherished, the heart becomes defiled and loses its integrity." (5T 177; Z5 186)

"Many are unfit for both spiritual and physical labor because they satisfy their lustful passions." (5T 135; Z5 143) "We need a constant supply of Jesus' grace. Only then will Christian love remain characterized by cordiality and purity." (5T 103; Z5 112) "Jesus' purity and splendor will seem all the more sublime and desirable to us the more repulsive sin appears to us." (5T 141; Z5 150) "Under the influence of the religion of Jesus ... the vicious is freed from unchastity and made pure." (5T 345; Z5 362)

Love without confidences

"Jesus was very sociable, but possessed a reserve that did not allow confidences." (Ev 636; Ev 575) "Avoid confidences! Rather, create a bond of Christian interest and Christian love between hearts." (3T 193/4; Z3 206/7) "The only way to be truly polite without becoming overly emotional or confidential is to absorb Jesus' spirit and heed the instruction: 'You shall be holy, for I am holy' (Lev 11:44)." (CH 341) "If we follow the principles in God's Word, we have no desire for too much confidentiality." (CH 341) "Whoever is filled with Jesus' Spirit and walks with God will have no unholy desire for compassion. He already has a fellowship that satisfies every desire of mind and heart." (5T 596; Z5 625)

Caution: Danger of falling!

"A bewitching influence always emanates from false teachings and permissiveness." (5T 142; Z5 150) "If young or even married people make attempts to let you in on their family secrets, be careful! If they express a longing for compassion, know that it is high time to be very careful!" (5T 596; Z5 625) "Flee from those who let their thoughts wander in this lewd direction even with words." (5T 146; Z5 155) "Holiness of heart would never lead to impure actions." (5T 593; Z5 622) "When one begins to bestow his affection on someone by favoring and flattering him, God withdraws his spirit." (5T 594; Z5 623) "Satan has destroyed many souls by enticing them to expose themselves to temptation." (4T 616; Z4 669) "One hour of thoughtlessness, once yielded to temptation, can turn the whole course of your life in the wrong direction." (4T 623; Z4 676) "A single act does not decide our character, but it lowers the inhibition threshold." (5T 396; Z5 417)

Absolute uncompromisingness

"Do not give a moment's space to a lewd, hidden suggestion. For even this will defile the heart." (5T 147; Z5 155) "A firm decision is necessary and the will not to touch what is harmful, not to taste it and not to have anything to do with it." (5T 360; Z5 378) "A Christian allows himself no impure thought, not a single reckless movement, not a word that would go in the direction of sensuality, not an action that has even the slightest appearance of evil." (MS 4a 1885, Ph137 8)
