The first angel of Revelation 14 – The eternal gospel and God’s judgment
Sin is the reason why man can no longer live in harmony with God and his creation. But God is love – and instead of destroying the sinner, he offers him the opportunity to repent and restore the lost community. The Bible calls this plan the eternal gospel.
The eternal gospel – God’s plan of restoration
The gospel applies to people of all times. It was proclaimed by men of God such as Noah, Elijah, John the Baptist, Paul and Martin Luther. Each called for a time of decision – a life of faithfulness to God. Today, the same message is directed at us.
The message of the first angel – Fear God and give him the glory
In Revelation 14, the first angel proclaims with a loud voice: “Fear God and give him glory, for the hour of his judgment has come.” This message calls for a return to the true fear of God – to a life of obedience to God’s commandments and trust in his plan.
The judgment and the prophecy of Daniel
The book of Daniel complements the book of Revelation. In Daniel 8 and 9, the judgment is announced and dated to the year 1844. This prophetic time marks the beginning of the last phase of salvation history, in which God prepares his people for the coming end.
Creation instead of evolution – the Creator as intelligent designer
In the 19th century, Charles Darwin challenged the biblical understanding of creation with his theory of evolution. But the first angel calls us back to the worship of the Creator – the one who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water. In their lectures, Walter Veith and other researchers point to the clear biblical teaching on creation.
Fear of God today – living responsibly
True fear of God means serving God in sincerity and faithfulness. It means respecting his commandments and treating nature, animals and people responsibly. Our own body and spirit are also his property – we are to keep them healthy and pure in order to honor God.
The goal of the first angel
The task of the first angel is to bring people’s hearts back to God, to rekindle their interest in divine things and to revive Bible prophecy. The message from heaven is: “Fear God, give Him glory and worship the Creator.”
“For the hour of his judgment has come.” These words are more relevant than ever – they call on every person to recognize and trust in the true Creator.
